Although there has been a slight delay on the build completion date the school is still on track to be ready for the summer ahead of welcoming its first cohort of pupils in September. As you can see from the photos below the school is really starting to take shape!
The majority of senior management and teaching positions for the school have been appointed to. The Head of School, Danny Ross, is already in position shaping the final plans for the school and preparing the work to be undertaken with the families of the children and young people who will be attending the school. Representatives from the school and from Nexus Multi Academy Trust recently attended a recruitment fair at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport to promote the school’s current vacancies of Teaching Assistants, Site Manager and admin staff positions. It was lovely to see such a lot of interest being shown for the school. All current vacancy details can be found on the Discovery website (details below).
Working closely with Sheffield City Council almost all of the places for the school have been allocated. Although Discovery Academy is an 80-place school it will open in September offering places to 60 pupils to, initially, Years 3 to 8. This will ensure that the school can offer quality education to its first cohort and allow new staff and pupils the opportunity to settle into the school and begin their exciting journey.
As part of the pre-opening phase the school has recently undergone its first Ofsted inspection. The inspector provided really positive feedback to the Trust and had no recommendations for any further action to be taken, in any area, which was an incredible result!
